Mello-Dee Capps

I believe that counseling is more than a profession—it's a calling. It is a privilege to walk alongside individuals as they navigate life's challenges, discover their strengths, and create meaningful change.

My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. Together, we'll explore the experiences that have shaped you, develop a deeper understanding of your thoughts and emotions, and build practical tools to help you move forward with confidence.

I recognize that no two people are alike. Your experiences, strengths, values, and goals are uniquely yours, which is why I tailor every counseling experience to fit your individual needs. Rather than expecting you to fit a particular approach, I meet you where you are and work at a pace that feels right for you.

Whether you're facing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, or life transitions, my role is to provide compassionate guidance, evidence-based support, and practical strategies that help you find healing, resilience, and hope. My greatest joy is watching clients grow in confidence, gain new perspectives, and realize they are capable of creating the life they want.

Meet Henry

Henry, our Animal-Assisted Therapy rabbit. While Henry's primary job is to support Mello-Dee during sessions, he also has a special way of helping clients feel more comfortable, relaxed, and connected.

Henry is especially popular with children, but adults often find his quiet presence calming as well. During in-person sessions, you may find him resting nearby, exploring his favorite tunnel, or quietly observing from his favorite spot. Even when he appears to be napping, Henry seems to have a way of knowing when someone needs a little extra comfort.

Like people, Henry has his own personality and boundaries. Rabbits are prey animals, which means trust is built through patience and respect. Clients are taught how to interact with him gently and safely, allowing Henry to choose when he wants to say hello. Those moments—when Henry hops over to sit beside someone or asks for a few gentle head scratches—often become meaningful reminders that trust, connection, and relationships are built over time.

For many children, Henry helps make therapy feel less intimidating. He creates opportunities to practice patience, emotional regulation, empathy, and respect for boundaries in a natural and engaging way. Sometimes simply having Henry nearby makes it easier to talk about difficult feelings.

Whether you're 10 or 70, Henry has a quiet way of reminding us to slow down, be present, and find comfort in the small moments. We can't promise he'll make an appearance in every session—after all, he has an important job to do and occasionally needs a break—but if you meet him, you'll quickly understand why he's such a valued member of the MC Counseling family.
